Coolest Gadget at NAB Lots of high-end audio and video at this year's NAB conference in Las Vegas, but my favorite is this complete radio-studio-in-a-box from Henry Engineering. For only US$595 it includes a mixer w/mic preamp, mic/monitor switching (w/cough switch), mix-minus output, and many monitoring features. And it fits into the drive pay of a PC plus an external connection pod. Terrific for remote-studio operations.

How Long WIll That CD-R Last? There are many surprises about CD-R and CD-R/W media in this great article in Radio Magazine. For example, did you know that you should not use an alcohol-based pen to label disks because the data-recording layer of a CD-R is located close to the top (label side) of the disc, and alcohol based pens can dissolve the disc coating, causing data loss? (Don't use a ballpoint pen either; use a water-soluble pen instead.) Using those 52x disks in slower burners can be problematic as well. Interesting reading if you want your CDs to last.
