Noise

Occasional and random personal reflections by Doug Kaye.

An Audio "Clip" Server? There are a number of servers that can stream static MP3s: ShoutCAST and Icecast, for example. Windows Media and Real, too. Can any of these servers deliver *part* of an MP3 specified via URL (or i the playlist) as I mentioned yesterday? If so, then *any* MP3 client could be used to play "clips" merely by specifying the clip via a URL or playlist, and there are many ways to make that happen. Rather than copy/edit to create an excerpt, one then only needs to build that URL or playlist. No need to move the MP3 file; it can remain on the original server. I'm slowly catching up with Jon Udell on this. :-)

Does such a server exist? Would it be hard to add to Icecast?
