Noise

Occasional and random personal reflections by Doug Kaye.

Suites vs. Best-of-Breed There's a continuous ebb and flow in the debate over whether one should go for a best-of-breed component solution as opposed to the one-stop-shop suite. But it occurred to me that this distinction only exists in the world of proprietary software. In the open-source world, there's no such distinction. All components are available to all, and suites are nothing more than tried-and-true combinations of components such as the LAMP platform. Just something I thought of while working on my next column for The Web Host Inductry Review Magazine.
