It's the World Wide Web. According to a new study by Washington DC-based research firm TeleGeography, of the top ten "Internet cities" in the world, only five were American. Four of the top ten cities were based in Europe, and one (Tokyo) in Asia. [Source: Web Host Industry Review]

App Server Price Wars. "Hewlett-Packard plans to attack BEA Systems and IBM in the market for software that runs e-business transactions by giving its product away for free." [Source: ZDNet News] I agree with Chris Dial (Forrester) and Mark Driver (Gartner) that this will further the commoditization of app servers. It's going to mean big trouble for WebLogic (BEA) that was already getting beat up by WebSphere (IBM). Dynamo (ATG) has nearly dropped out of the race already. JBoss (open source=free) was already going to pull prices down, but this announcement from HP will solidify the trend. I predict the big winner will be IBM, the only leader who can afford to win a price war. BEA's in trouble.
