Blogarithms

Doug Kaye's thoughts on web services, web hosting and managed services.

Look, Ma. No hands! I am going to try an experiment and attempt to dictate the entire manuscript for my next book entitled "Internet Content Delivery" using IBM's ViaVoice software. In fact the copier ["copy you're"] now reading was dictated, hands free, into ViaVoice. I have made no corrections other than those shown. I have only trained the software for 20 minutes, and I am very impressed with the quality of the speech recognition. It should get even better with more training. All ["I'll"] keep you up-to-date on my progress and success.

Microsoft Gains in Web Server Share. According to Netcraft (one of my favorite on-line resources):

Microsoft gains around five and a half per cent of web hosts this month, and almost 2% of active sites. Primarily this is a result of two large US installations converting from Solaris.

The large free hosting company Namezero, hosted on the Exodus network, has migrated its front end systems to Windows 2000, as has part of the Network Solutions domain registration system. Network Solutions has moved physically from Digex, to Interland, [where Microsoft held a minority interest, prior to the sale to Micron] as part of the process.
