Blogarithms

Doug Kaye's thoughts on web services, web hosting and managed services.

Which Webserver? Some of my clients use Microsoft's IIS and some use Apache. Since I focus on infrastructure, I'm usually brought into a project after the selection of a webserver has already occurred. But sometimes people ask me which is better. If you're in the midst of this decision, here are some of my favorite links that may help you make up your mind.

Unix-vs-NT.org
An InformationWeek article
The Standish Group (a particularly objective view)

I was reminded of this again thanks to an article by Dave Murphy, linked to by diveintomark:

The last serious security hole in the Apache webserver was reported and fixed in January 1997.

But it's never black and white. In fact, I switched my own site from a shared Linux server to one running Windows 2000, not because Win2K is better, but because it's supported more completely by my web-hosting service.
