Blogarithms

Doug Kaye's thoughts on web services, web hosting and managed services.

Soft Launch. I've spent the past week head-down redesigning the site for IT Conversations. That's a new URL, too, although the old one redirects. It's an entirely different look, feel, and interface/backend architecture, but so far it's the same 19 shows produced to date. Tuesday SBC installs ISDN phone lines in the studio, so the audio quality should be much better from now on. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll be recording great new conversations beginning on Wednesday. Look for the first of them to go live early next week if not before.

It's been years since I've had time and an excuse to dive deep into code, work late through the night, ignore the rest of my life, and so on. If you've done it, you know what I mean. Addictive behavior. Linux, Apache, PHP, mySQL, and the Smarty template package. PHP is cool. So fast to write and debug. And Smarty is a great way to segregate logic and formatting. I was able to develop my templates in Dreamweaver as though I was creating static content. I know...big deal. But after years of managing projects like this (only much larger :-)) it's nice to do one myself, hands on.

The official launch is 9/23/03, so play with it in the meantime. And let me now what's broken.
