Noise

Occasional and random personal reflections by Doug Kaye.

Knoppix. Want to play with Linux without messin' with your PC's hard drive? Knoppix offers a free version of Linux that's configured to boot off of CD-ROM with no installation. Very cool. Download the 680mb ISO CD-ROM disk image, burn it onto a 700mb CD-ROM, and boot. Works great. It found virtually all of my devices, allowed me to run the video in 1280x1024 mode, and even picked up an IP address from my firewall's DHCP server. It includes Star Office, and I was able to access all of my Windows files. A great, zero-risk way to play with Linux.
